Troops of the Third Brigade prevented a flagrant violation of International Humanitarian Law by destroying an anti-personnel mine in controlled conditions in the village of Guachinte, municipality of Jamund铆, Valle del Cauca.
The device, with a collateral damage radius of approximately three meters, was dangerously close to a water tributary from which more than 40% of the inhabitants of the village benefit.
This criminal action would have been planned by the Jaime Mart铆nez Residual Organized Armed Group, which once again puts the inhabitants at serious risk and violates fundamental norms of International Humanitarian Law.
Thanks to the timely and precise intervention of the soldiers, a humanitarian tragedy was prevented and a vital source of water was protected for hundreds of families in this rural area of southwestern Colombia.
