The quick reaction of the troops safeguarded the lives of the passengers of a boat that capsized in a rural area of the municipality of Pinillos.
Within the framework of river control, surveillance and security operations, units of the Colombian Navy, through the Navy Infantry Brigade No. 1 attached to the Caribbean Naval Force, supported people in a timely manner at an emergency in the Magdalena River, near the municipality of Pinillos, in the department of Bolivar.
According to preliminary information, the river transport vessel would have had mechanical failures in its steering system. In an attempt to approach the shore, the movement by the pasangers towards one of the sides would have caused the capsizing and subsequent sinking of the ship.
Immediately, units of the Navy Infantry Riverine Battalion No. 17, in the area, went to the scene and initiated search and rescue efforts, to safeguard the lives of 14 people. The operation was in the same way supported by residents who were passing through the area.
Later, the navy provided humanitarian assistance to those affected and supported the recovery of the ship, moving it to a safe place, which managed to restore normality in the sector.
