COMMANDER OF THE COLOMBIAN NAVY

ADMIRAL JUAN RICARDO ROZO OBREGÓN
· The Officer, with more than 34 years of service in the Naval Institution, was serving as Second Commander and Chief of Staff.
* Vice Admiral Rozo assumes the challenge of leading this branch consisting of more than 31 thousand Sailors and navy infantrymen.
The President of the Republic, Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego, appointed Vice Admiral Juan Ricardo Rozo Obregón as the new Commander of the Colombian Navy, a position held for about two years by Admiral Francisco Hernando Cubides Granados.
Vice Admiral Rozo was born on June 16, 1968 in the city of Medellín - Antioquia, and entered the Naval Cadet School Almirante Padilla in January 1986, graduating as a Lieutenant Commander on December 1, 1989 in the specialty of Surface Executive. He was promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral in December 2021 and was serving as the Second Commander and Chief of Staff of the Colombian Navy.
He is a professional in Administration Sciences of the Naval School Almirante Padilla, has a Master's Degree in National Security and Defense of the Superior School of War and is graduated in the International Senior Management Program of the Universidad de los Andes. In addition, he has a diploma in General Staff and basic Command instruction courses, General Staff and Higher Military Studies.
In his more than 34 years of service at the institution, he has held important positions on board the different units, including : Commander of the Caribbean Naval Force, Director of the Naval Cadet School Almirante Padilla, Director of the Naval Non-commissioned Officer School ARC Barranquilla, Commander of the Surface Flotilla, Liaison Officer to the Third Fleet of the United States Navy in San Diego – California, Director of the Naval Hospital of Cartagena, Port Captain of Barranquilla, Buenaventura and San Andrés, as well as Commander and Second Commander of the sea patrol ship ARC Jaime Cárdenas and of the missile frigate ARC Almirante Padilla.
Thanks to his outstanding experience and his service to the institution and the country, the Officer has received numerous national and international recognitions and decorations during his military career.
Vice Admiral Juan Ricardo Rozo Obregón is well known by his selfless commitment to the institution and citizens, his leadership and vocation for service that have led him to achieve important accomplishments in the positions held, reporting historical figures in the fight against drug trafficking, smuggling and damages to the persistent threat system. In addition, he has led international operations that have increased the level of interoperability of the Colombian Navy with other countries and he has worked tirelessly for the communities, contributing to the tranquility and security of the inhabitants.
As Second Commander and Chief of Staff he was in charge of important processes of the military, educational, logistical, technological development and especially human talent operation of the Naval Institution. After holding this position, the Officer assumes the challenge of leading the Colombian Navy, composed of more than 31 thousand men and women, Sailors and navy infantry men, who fulfill the constitutional mission of defending the sovereignty and maritime and river interests of the nation.
