The operations are carried out simultaneously in the city of Cartagena and in the municipalities of Arjona, Mahates, and Maria la Baja.
14 individuals were arrested for the alleged crime of extortion and one for the alleged crime of association to commit crimes.
Troops of the Colombian Navy and members of the Military Forces of the National Police, during different coordinated operations, arrested 15 alleged members of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo in the department of Bolívar.
Thanks to the investigative work carried out by the authorities, members of the Military Forces complied with the search and arrest orders issued by the First Specialized Prosecutor's Office of Cartagena, where eight arrests and seven notifications were made in prison centers for the alleged crimes of extortion, association to commit crimes and carrying weapons or ammunition, neutralizing the criminal activities of the GAO Clan del Golfo.
Among the most relevant arrests, there is alias El Gato, 37, who is among the most wanted in the department of Bolívar and would be accused of the alleged crime of association to commit crimes for extortion purposes. In addition, more than three years of criminal experience as alleged member of the Nicolás Antonio Urango Reyes substructure of the GAO Clan del Golfo, made him a very important target. The individual, apparently, would be responsible for the criminal operations in the municipalities of the north of Bolivar, through the direction of the collection of money extorted from ranchers and merchants, and follow-up to the Military Forces.
In the operation, alias Jhon or JJ, alleged political ringleader of the Clan del Golfo in the area, was in the same way arrested, who apparently pretended to be a motorcycle taxi driver to evade the operations of the authorities and easily transport in the rural and urban areas of the municipality.
In the same way, alias Vanessa, Príncipe, Ramoncito, Andreina, El Hombre and El Negro or Migue were arrested, who allegedly were in charge of extorting merchants and ranchers of the municipalities of the area, in addition to occasionally meeting on the Caribbean trunk to report the movements of the Military Forces and identify people for the execution of selective homicides through hitmen. This, apparently, as retaliation for not obeying the criminal demands of the Clan del Golfo in this region of the country.
