With weapons smelting activities, the Military Forces guarantee that these illegal devices will not be involved again in criminal activities that beat and intimidate civilians.

Tuta, Boyac谩, June 24, 2022. The General Command of the Military Forces, through the Department of Control of Trade of firearms, Munitions and Explosives, with the support of the National steel company Gerdau Diaco and in compliance with the Decree 2535 de 1993, which establishes the legal duty of the State to destroy the seized material that is unusable, obsolete, or deprecated, and may not be converted or used by the Military Forces, has melted 164,000 weapons from 2018.

This important numbers include 9,300 pistols, revolvers, rifles, carbines, machineguns, submachineguns, mortars and rocket launchers that were melted last Friday at the Tuta plant, in Boyac谩, and that mainly come from the encounters engaged by the Military Forces against Organized Armed Groups and common crime.

It should be noted that these activities were carried out within the framework of the initiative Transforming Weapons into Hope, led by Gerdau Diaco, which seeks, through the reuse of steel, to contribute to the construction of social interest houses that will be assigned to the community of the department of Boyac谩.
