Among the specimens recovered are a sloth bear and a morrocoy turtle, animals in danger of extinction.
Working for the protection of flora and fauna in the Caribbean, Colombian navy, during eight joint operations with Colombian National Army and coordinated with environmental authorities, rescued and rescued 181 wild animals that had been extracted of their natural habitat in the municipalities of Arjona, Mahates and Zambrano in the department of Bolivar; Galeras, San Juan de Betulia and Sincé in Sucre; and in Riosucio - Chocó department.
The coordinated work conducted by Navy Infantry troops of the Colombian Navy and Colombian National Army, the Regional Autonomous Corporation of the Dique – CARDIQUE Canal and the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Sucre - CARSUCRE, led to the recovery of 81 birds of different specimens, including canaries, parakeets and sparrows as well as 99 specimens of reptiles such as lizards, boas, iguanas and morrocoy turtle, and a sloth bear.
These animals, which would be traded illegally putting their conservation at risk, were rescued and handed over to the environmental authorities for their subsequent rescue in safe areas, their natural habitat.
