26 years of the Las Delicias massacre in Putumayo

In the armed attack, 27 members of the Military Forces were killed and 60 more were kidnapped for 10 months.

The Las Delicias military base, in a rural area of the municipality of Puerto Leguizamo, in the department of Putumayo, was the scene of one of the bloodiest massacres perpetrated by the extinct FARC against the troops of the National Army, an event that happened on August 30, 1996.

It was at 7:00 at night, when about 500 guerrillas sent by El Mono Jojoy, then commander of the Eastern Bloc of the FARC guerrillas, began their plan of attack against the military base, in which 100 soldiers were, who had arrived to carry out military operations against the criminal structures that had besieged the region.

This indiscriminate attack left 27 soldiers killed, some of them with a Coup de gr芒ce, as is the case of Captain Orlando Mazo, commander of the assaulted unit, who, according to the survivors, fought with his men with courage until the last minute. 22 soldiers wounded and another 60 military who survived the onslaught, remained kidnapped for more than ten months.

Today the 26th anniversary of the barbarism marks when young Colombians lost their lives, which left entire families shattered by the pain of their departure; for this reason, the Jungle Brigade No.27 pays a special tribute to each of them, victims of one of the cruelest massacres that the National Army has suffered throughout history.

In the same way, we expresses an greeting to the survivors, veterans of the war who throughout these decades have had in the memory that night, when the inclemency of this group snatched the dreams of 27 of their companions.
