In a joint, coordinated and interagency operation conducted by the Colombian Air Force, the National Army, the Attorney General's Office and the environmental authority of the department of Meta, it was possible to raid five buildings in the El Jaguar Nature Reserve, where elements used against natural resources were allegedly stored.
In this protected area, in the rural area of the Unibrisas del Iteviare village in Mapirip谩n, large quantities of wood, 300 units of cattle, a bulldozer, chainsaws, machetes, among other items were in the same way found; these elements were put into custody of the Prosecutor's Office to conduct the respective investigations and establish those responsible for these events that hit the biodiversity of the region.
This important result obstructs the criminal plans of groups outlaw, identifying six active deforestation nuclei which hit about 480 hectares of fauna and flora in the Colombian southeast; leading the State to recover the land and ensure its protection so that the El Jaguar nature reserve, which houses specimens of endangered animals and environmental resources in general, is not further harmed.
According to a spokesman of the Corporation for Sustainable Development of the La Macarena Special Management Area, (CORMACARENA), the crimes against biodiversity committed by those who, illegally usufruct the heritage of humanity, imply deforestation practices, indiscriminate logging of trees, planting illicit plantations or extensive livestock farming, among others, with penalties of 60 to 144 months in prison and fines up to 50,000 minimum wages.
In this way, the Air Force will continue participating in decisive military operations to curb deforestation in the south of the Country, especially in protected areas of the Amazon Biome and reiterates its commitment to the protection of the nation's strategic resources, working both for humane security and the protection of ecosystems.
