In a coordinated operation conducted by Colombian National Army and the National Police, it was possible to counteract this crime that seriously disturbs the environment.
Within the framework of the Ayacucho Plus Campaign Plan, and thanks to intelligence work, the intervention of two illegal coal plants specialized in the transformation of wood to obtain charcoal was carried out. During the operation, eight people were arrested in flagrante delicto for allegedly illegally exploiting renewable natural resources.
The operation took place in the village of Navarro, Cali (department of Valle del Cauca), where troops of the Third Brigade, in coordination with the National Police, timely intervened two coal mines, which would generate profits of approximately 45 million pesos per month, the product of the exploitation of about 1300 sacks of coal. These activities would be financing the Manuel Cepeda Vargas Urban Front of the Jaime Mart铆nez residual structure.
During the military operations, 42 sacks of charcoal were found by troops and about 38 cubic meters of felled forest material, belonging to different specimens, were found by troops. The evidentiary material, along with those arrested, were put into custody of the authorities to conduct in their judicial process.
Through these operations, the Military Forces and the National Police reaffirm their commitment to the protection of the environment and the fight against crimes that disturb the country's natural resources, thus contributing to environmental security and the well-being of communities.
