84 members of the Residual Organized Armed Group, GAOr, Magdalena Medio Bloc of the FARC-EP, including 20 recovered minors, surrendered to justice, thanks to a joint and coordinated operation conducted by the Colombian Aerospace Force, the Army and the National Police
The events took place in the rural area of the municipality of Tib煤, department of Norte de Santander, within the framework of the Ayacucho Plus Operations Plan. The surrender to justice, took place without armed confrontation, which represents an important progress in the security of the Catatumbo region.
During the operation, a significant war arsenal was seized that included 54 long weapons, two machineguns, a sniper rifle, more than 20 pistols, 80 mortar rounds, magazines, ammunition of different calibers and approximately one ton of explosives as well as material and military accessories and communications equipment.
The surrender and recovery of the members of the GAOr, the Magdalena Medio Bloc of the FARC-EP Frente 33, represents a strategic blow to the criminal structure that commits crimes in the Catatumbo region, mitigating the expansion of violence and strengthening the security conditions for local communities, by neutralizing criminal operations without hitting the inhabitants due to clashes.
