Eight long-range rifles, six handguns and more than 1,900 rounds of ammunition were found by troops inside a vehicle in which two individuals were planning to flee, who were later arrested.
Within the framework of the coordinated operations carried out to neutralize the threat´s resources in the department of Nariño, soldiers of the Infantry Battalion No. 9 Batalla de Boyacá, a unit of the Twenty-Third Brigade of Colombian National Army, with the support of the National Police, arrested in flagrante two individuals in rural area of the municipality of El Peñol.
The facts took place thanks to the coordination of resources in military and police intelligence, which led to confirm the activity of armed individuals in the area, in this way, the operation that led to the apprehension of the individuals was planned. The soldiers, along with judicial police officers, spent three days undercover. Their expertise led them to go deep to the place where the individuals were, who, upon noticing the activity of the troops, started to escape.
However, meters later they were intercepted by the military units, obtaining as a result the arrest in flagrante delicto of these people and the finding of five assault rifles, six handguns, three shotguns, more than 1900 rounds of ammunition of different calibers, 33 magazines, materials and military accessories and communications, and 911 thousand pesos in cash, as well as the van and motorcycle on which they were traveling.
The material found and those arrested were put into custody of the authorities. Apparently, the elements would be the property of the residual organized armed group Structura Franco Benavides that commits crimes in the area.
