An aeromedical transfer against the clock managed to protect the life of a 23-year-old woman who remained in an extremely serious condition due to obstetric hemorrhage and septic shock, an emergency that immediately activated the resources of the Colombian Aerospace Force with the purpose of urgently transporting her to a level IV institution where she could receive specialized evaluation and intensive vital management.
The patient was transported from the Pacific coast to Cali, in the Valle del Cauca, aboard a UH-60 Angel aircraft of the Air Combat Command No. 7, in a mission that integrated pilot, co-pilot, doctor, nurse and highly trained rescuers who flew to Docordó, Chocó department, to receive the woman who was in critical condition.
Due to the complexity of the medical situation, a relatively low altitude was maintained in flight, in order to prevent further damage to her body, a condition that required permanent monitoring during the journey, especially when she presented hemodynamic instability that required life support and management with vasopressor agents; she was gradually stabilizing while this mission was being executed.
The transfer culminated in the Valle del Lili Clinic, where she was immediately handed over to the specialized medical team with stable vital signs for admission to the Intensive Care Unit and continuity of treatment, a process that was accompanied by her husband, who received permanent medical information about the clinical evolution of the emergency.
This humanitarian operation demonstrates the reaction capacity, professionalism and commitment of the Colombian Aerospace Force to reach the most remote territories of the country when life depends on the response time, consolidating its operation as a supply by air connection for hope even in the most adverse environments.
