In a timely operation to combat the forest fires that are hitting the eastern hills of Bogot谩, the Colombian Aerospace Force through the National Personnel Recovery Center, CENRP, has flown a Black Hawk helicopter equipped with the Bambi Bucket system. This system leads to the drop of water at critical points, effectively contributing to the mitigation of conflagrations that threaten the biodiversity and safety of the capital city.
The aircraft belonging to Air Combat Command No.5, CACOM 5, took off at the Military Transport Air Command, CATAM, in response to the emergency call by the UNGRD and the Mayor's Office of Bogot谩.
Thanks to its ability to transport large amounts of water, the Black Hawk becomes a key tool for fighting fires in hard-to-reach areas, and to support in a coordinated way the work carried out on ground by relief institutions.
During the operation, the crew of the aircraft has carried out 15 precise water drops with 2,508 gallons of water and 60 gallons of retardant liquid on the spot of the fire, giving a high percentage of containment, thus contributing to the tasks that the Bogot谩 Fire department has carried out on the ground.
