The Colombian Aerospace Force, FAC, continues to strengthen its international cooperation by participating in the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) capabilities Certification Program, which began in 2021, with the purpose of consolidating mutual trust with global partner nations and the Atlantic Alliance, facilitating interoperability and cooperation.
This program leads NATO sharing its operating standards with global partner countries, who can identify, evaluate and adopt the said doctrine for the benefit of their military resources. The adoption of common standards facilitates the conduct of joint military training and operation exercises, known as interoperability exercises.
Within the framework of this program, during this week an exploratory visit was carried out to the Air Combat Command No. 5, CACOM 5, in Rionegro, Antioquia; house unit of the UH-60 helicopters of the FAC. The purpose of this visit was to analyze the search, rescue and recovery resources of personnel. The delegation was made up of eight international evaluators, from Norway, Italy, Greece and Colombia, accompanied by a United States advisor.
During the tour, the procedures of the Institution's military operation were evaluated around the aforementioned capacity; highlighting top levels of alignment with NATO.
Colombia's participation as a global partner of NATO represents important benefits for the Colombian Aerospace Force, such as: the strengthening of bilateral relations with member countries of this organization, the possibility of jointly executing search and rescue missions with international Air Forces, and access to high-quality academic programs provided by NATO for personnel training.
This alignment and certification process reaffirms the commitment of the Colombian Aerospace Force to international standards of cooperation and global security, consolidating its positioning as a strategic ally for the international community.
