Marine Infantry units of the Colombian Navy rescued 10 members of indigenous communities of the Casiquiare, who were adrift in the waters of the Negro River, near San Felipe, department of Guainía, when the rudimentary boat in which they were traveling presented technical failures in its main engine.
After hearing the emergency call coming from the boat, crew members of a River Operations Element, which was carrying out patrol and control tasks on the river, began the search and rescue operation to safeguard the lives of these people traveling on the Puerto Colombia – San Felipe route.
Already on the site of the emergency, the troops of the Navy Infantry River Battalion No.50, verifying the good health of the occupants of the boat, including children and the elderly, they proceeded to transport them and tow the boat to the main pier of San Felipe, department of Guainía.
The Colombian Navy, through the Naval Force of the Orinoquia, will continue to work by raising means and human talent, the comprehensive river security in the different tributaries of the region, in order to safeguard human life in the river and to carry out permanent control in the spaces under its responsibility.
