Air Force evacuates wounded mountaineer from the Nevado del Tolima

Tolima. Thanks to the coordination conducted by the National Center for Personnel Recovery, CNRP in Spanish, the Colombian Air Force, the Air Combat Commands No. 4 and No. 5 with the support of the Red Cross, Civil Defense, Risk Management Department and the National Army, the aeromedical evacuation of a 35-year-old man with possible hip fracture, who was climbing in the Tolima snow-capped mountains.

 

After a demanding and delicate air operation, at 5,000 meters, a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter of the Colombian Air Force, better known as "Angel" belonging to the Air Combat Command No. 5, moved to the area with doctors and rescuers of the Red Cross and Civil Defense to find the exact place where the mountaineer had had the accident 48 hours before to con the extraction safely.

 

Despite the difficult weather conditions of the sector and several attempts of the crew of the aircraft, the patient was evacuated to the Ascotrauma Clinic in the city of Ibagué.

 

On land and during the flight, rescue and medical personnel of the Red Cross and Civil Defense provided first aid, keeping vital signs monitored.
