Within the framework of the vaccination activity against COVID-19 that is being conducted in the Amazonas, and in coordination with the San Rafael de Leticia Hospital, the Colombian Air Force transported the vaccines Janssen of single dose, to the non-municipalized areas of difficult access in the department.

On this occasion, the military personnel of the Amazonas Air Group (GAAMA), in a C-208 Caravan type aircraft, was in charge of carrying out the mission of the transfer and distribution of the vaccines, which began on July 23. The crew of men and women in charge of carrying out this work arrived at the GAAMA operational area to take off and begin the journey through the different areas in order to combat the virus.

During the two activities, the inhabitants expressed their gratitude and expressed that “for them the vaccine is very important because they were waiting for this dose and they should have been protected a long time ago,” said Alicia Aguanary, an indigenous Ticuna woman.

It is important to mention that, with the arrival of vaccines, it is expected to vaccinate all inhabitants to mitigate the spread of the virus and ensure immunization coverage throughout the department, based on joint work with the Government of the Amazonas and other institutions.

The Air Force has been responsible for carrying out the important mission of transporting these vaccines, an operation that facilitated the work of reaching the most remote non-municipalized areas of the country because they are those that can be reached only by aircraft.

It should be remembered that, although these sites are considered as places that are away of the virus, the COVID-19 has reached these sites and is present in almost all of Colombia, which apparently may have been due to the appearance of new strains in the Brazilian jungle and transmitted to this region of Colombia or from other inhabitants of the country.

The vaccination activity was carried out for two consecutive days, on the first day the mission was opened with the transport of the vaccines to the municipality of Puerto Arica, an hour and a half by aircraft of the city of Leticia. Subsequently, the distribution was made in the municipalities of La Pedrera, Mirití and Tarapacá, where thanks to the support of the Air Force, 4,235 doses were transported and distributed, with the aim of fulfilling the mission of vaccinating the different indigenous communities.

The health and military personnel undertook a great run through rural areas that can only be accessed by aircraft; they were welcomed with open arms by the indigenous inhabitants, to houses or Malocas to receive what means a hope, an opportunity to continue living protected from COVID-19.

In the same way, on July 24, the military personnel aboard the Caravan C-208 of the GAAMA, spread the wings to continue with the mission entrusted, reaching the municipalities of El Encanto, La Chorrera, Puerto Alegría and Puerto Santander to distribute in the different health centers 3,170 vaccines.
