The Colombian Aerospace Force, through the Air Combat Command No. 5 (CACOM 5), in a coordinated work with the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD), the Administrative Department of Risk Management of Antioquia (DAGRAN), the Government of Antioquia and the National Center for Personnel Recovery (CNRP), conducted a humanitarian operation in support of the communities hit by the floods caused by the intense rains reported in the department.
This mission was carried out as a response to the emergency generated by the heavy rains of the last few days, which caused the overflow of water sources and serious damages to the inhabitants.
As part of this operation, three UH-60 type aircraft were deployed, which led to the airlift of more than 500 humanitarian aid consisting of food and toiletries, totaling 12 tons. These elements were received in the municipalities of Necoclí and Carepa, department of Antioquia, and later transferred to the municipality of San Juan de Urabá, facilitating the arrival of assistance to sectors with limited land access.
The inter-institutional coordination managed to optimize the logistical resources and the military operation, working to ensure that the aid was distributed efficiently and as a priority to the most vulnerable communities, in a context marked by adverse weather conditions and impacts on road construction.
Through this deployment, Air Combat Command No. 5 reaffirms its permanent commitment to emergency care and humanitarian assistance, contributing to mitigate the blows generated by the rainy season and providing solidarity support to the inhabitants at the times when they need it most.
