The Colombian Aerospace Force, through the Air Combat Command No.1, CACOM 1 and Air Combat Command No. 5, CACOM 5, continues to deploy strategic resources in the Catatumbo region, in response to the current law and order situation in that area of the country, thus reaffirming the commitment to the defense of fundamental rights.
These operations seek to safeguard the security of the inhabitants and territorial control, through joint and coordinated operations with Colombian National Army and the National Police of Colombia, where inter-institutional cooperation has in the same way led to the execution of humanitarian and security missions.
With regard to the current situation facing the Catatumbo region, due to the clashes among illegal armed groups that threaten stability and local development, the Institution has transported remotely piloted aircraft, strengthening surveillance over the energy and road network, in addition to launching brochures as part of the Themis strategy, to obtaining the arrest of members of organizations outlaw, responsible for violent acts and in this way protect the interests of the State and citizens.
Multiple operations have been carried out, including aeromedical evacuations, critical construction surveillance and aerial patrols. Recently, a UH-60 Angel helicopter evacuated two soldiers wounded in combat of the village of El Juncal, municipality of Enciso, Santander, in addition to carrying out the extraction of one person in Tib煤 and carrying out reconnaissance missions on the Tib煤-C煤cuta road; in the same way, the air accompaniment operations have been conducted to secure the safe evacuation of victims of the conflict.
