A UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter of the Colombian Aerospace Force became a bridge of hope by transporting 24 wild animals, victims of captivity, to the Piscilago Conservation Park in Cundinamarca, where they will begin a recovery process.
The mission, carried out in coordination with the environmental corporation: Regional Autonomous Corporation of the Basins of the Negro and Nare Rivers, CORNARE, and the Air Combat Command No. 5, CACOM 5, led to the safe transfer of several specimens such as seven yellow-spotted charapa turtles, a box turtle, a matamata turtle, an ocellated owl, a common kestrel, an emerald toucanet, a scarlet macaw, a red-fronted parrot, four yellow-bearded parrots and two gray marmosets, among others. These animals had been voluntarily returned or recovered from military control operations and, despite the rehabilitation processes, they were not able to recover the necessary conditions to return to their natural habitat.
The commitment of the Colombian Aerospace Force was key to carrying out an agile and safe transfer, under strict animal protection and wellbeing protocols. During the flight, each specimen received specialized custody, which led to its arrival in optimal conditions at the park, a reference center in conservation and environmental education.
The arrival of these specimens to Piscilago represents a new life opportunity. There, under specialized care, they will not only be protected, but will in the same way become ambassadors of biodiversity, raising awareness among thousands of visitors about the consequences of trafficking and illegal possession of fauna.
