Air surveillance and reconnaissance on possible sources of fires in the Sumapaz Natural Park

Vigilancia y reconocimiento a茅reo sobre posibles focos de incendios en el Parque Natural Sumapaz

In order to alert the corresponding institutions in a timely manner and act efficiently and effectively in the face of possible emergencies during the El ni帽o phenomenon, the Colombian Aerospace Force, through the National Personnel Recovery Center- CENRP and the Resources of the Military Transport Air Command- CATAM, conducted a surveillance and reconnaissance overflight on the Sumapaz National Natural Park, to face an alert for possible forest fires in this area.

This is how, a King-350 aircraft took off from Bogot谩 to conduct reconnaissance through remote sensors, to take data of the Ground vegetation surface and determine that there are no hot spots or fires in the park area, in the departments of Meta, Huila and Cundinamarca.

The information collected was later georeferenced and distributed to the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management- UNGRD, through the CENRP, leading constant monitoring of possible fires, thus facilitating decision-making for emergency.

In this way, the Colombian Aerospace Force continues to play a crucial role in the protection of the country's natural resources, by providing early warnings and support in the fight against forest fires during the El Ni帽o Phenomenon 2024.
