Anti-personnel mine that endangered the tranquility of the peasants was destroyed by the Army

Huila. The Humanitarian Demining Battalion No.5, with command post in the capital city of the department of Huila, is carrying out works to decontaminate of these deadly devices different areas of the Department, as part of the humanitarian commitment with the victims of the conflict.

 

On the occasion of the operation carried out by this special military unit, in the village of San Pablo, municipality of Baraya, north of Huila, the soldiers found and destroyed an Antipersonnel Mine, under the manual demining technique, which was endangering an area used by farmers who cultivate blackberries.

 

After receiving the timely information of the community, the Humanitarian Demining moved to the place end cleared the area of ​​all explosives risk so farmers and residents of the sector can return to their daily activities such as planting fruit, vegetables and others, as well as the use of roads and to access plantations and lands.

 

These humanitarian efforts have led thousands of peasants back to their roots, municipalities such as Tello and Baraya in the north of Huila, Algeciras, Gigante and Garzón in the center of the Department, and San Agustin in the south in limits with the department of Cauca, have benefited with the decontamination operation.
