Within the framework of the Amazon Plan, the Fourth Brigade has carried out the finding and intervention of several areas damaged by the illegal extraction of mining deposits in the department.
Soldiers of the 11th Cacique Nutibara Infantry Battalion of the Fourth Brigade of Colombian National Army, in coordination with the Environmental and Natural Resources Police Group, arrested seven people for the crime of illegal exploitation of mining deposits and other materials in the Piedecuesta village of the municipality of Amagá, Southwestern subregion of the department of Antioquia.
A mining production unit was intervened at the site, in which troops found 100 sacks of coal, 25 wooden units, two sinkholes, a pulley, 70 gallons of DIESEL, a regulator, two air and energy compressors, a winch, a motor pump and an engine.
The material found and the arrested individuals were put into custody of the authorities for their respective prosecution process.
As it could be established, this mining production unit would belong to the organized common crime group (GDO) La Miel, which commits crimes in the area, generating an economic impact estimated at more than 720 billion pesos.
With this operation, environmental damage on high-value ecosystems is mitigated, mainly in the water and soil components. In the bocaminas sector, there is evidence of loss of vegetation cover, possible pollution due to the use of fuels and damage to the water resource, which generates an environmental, social and economic damage.
