Thanks to the coordinated work conducted by the Colombian Navy, the National Disaster Risk Management Unit – UNGRD and different organizations of the national order, the ship ARC Golfo de Urabá sailed from the main pier of the Naval Base ARC Bolívar of Cartagena, with more than 10 thousand humanitarian aid and 20 thousand gallons of drinking water, to benefit the most vulnerable communities of the department of La Guajira hit by the tropical Storm Julia and the wave caused by rains.
On board the ship ARC Golfo de Urabá there are more than 20 Sailors from Colombia, who together with Coast Guard crew members sent to the north of La Guajira, will be responsible for transporting, collecting and distributing humanitarian aid accompanied by officials of the National Disaster Risk Management Unit.
In these activities that will take place for eight days free of charge, the Guajira families will receive 13 thousand tents, five thousand food baskets with basic products of the family basket, three thousand sheets, 800 toilet kits, 400 kitchen kits, as well as comprehensive assistance that leads them to improve their quality of life and contribute to the strengthening of the social fabric.
The communities benefiting from this distribution of humanitarian aid will be Bahía Honda, Bahía Portete and Puerto Estrella, to which the Unified operation of the State will go to work to meet the basic needs of the inhabitants of La Guajira and work in compliance with the Defense and Sovereignty of the Nation.
The Colombian Navy continues to coordinate efforts with national, local and governmental law enforcement agencies to positively impact the most vulnerable communities in the Colombian geography, generating safe environments that make closer ties of partnership with the inhabitants; in the same way, troops ratify their unrestricted commitment to contribute to humane security and the construction of a better country.
