The denunciation will always be the best tool against crimes that attack personal freedom.
As part of the ongoing operations against extortion and kidnapping, the Ninth Brigade, through troops of the Huila Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group), in coordination with the department of Huila Police Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) and the Prosecutor's Office, reported the arrest in flagrante delicto of an alleged extortionist in the municipality of La Plata, department of Huila.
The case was reported to the authorities by the merchant who was being the victim of intimidation and summonses through WhatsApp messages and digital menaces. In these messages, the criminals identified themselves as members of a residual organized armed group, GAO-r, with the purpose of generating fear and demanding payment of money in exchange for not attacking the life of the merchant or his commercial activity.
After receiving the denunciation, the Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) investigators immediately activated the victim care protocol and designed an anti-extortion plan that managed to follow up on the case and coordinate the controlled payment.
The operation took place on Libertadores Avenue, in the municipality of La Plata, where the alleged perpetrator was arrested in flagrante delicto when he received three million pesos, the money demanded of the merchant as a product of extortion.
Colombian National Army, through the Huila Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group), reiterated the call to the people not to give in to the pressures of the extortionists and, instead, to denounce in a timely manner. Citizen information remains the key to stopping this crime that hits the tranquility and economy of the department of Huila families.
