cogfm-ejercito-operaciones-militares-mineria-ilegal-antioquia-14.jpg

This illegal mining production unit generated monthly income of more than 500 million pesos.

Troops of the National Army, in coordination with the Police, and in response to early alerts 017 and 019 of 2018, dismantle an illegal mineral production unit, belonging to the Carlos Vásquez substructure, of the organized armed group, GAO, Clan del Golfo. This operation against the illegal exploitation of mineral deposits is carried out in compliance with the strategic line of water, biodiversity and environment of the Defense and Security Policy of the Republic of Colombia.

The military and police operation was carried out in the Pegado village, Dabeiba municipality, western Antioquia, over the Riosucio river basin, where this illegal practice was generating irreparable environmental damage. Two dredges, five motors, an excavator and other elements used for the illegal exploitation of mining deposits were destroyed on the site.

This organized armed group stops receiving 500 million pesos per month, an illegal income that this organization used to finance criminal operations against civilians and the Security forces in the west of Antioquia and Urabá.
