In the framework of the Operation Artermisa and the Environmental Bubble, troops of the National Army, in an interagency work with the Prosecutor No. 08 in the department of Santander for Environmental Crimes, captured three individuals, alleged members of a criminal organization of wood traffic that commit crimes in the Serranía de los Yariguíes.

The events were reported in the municipality Yarima, in the municipality of San Vicente de Chucurí and in the village La Colorada of El Carmen de Chucurí in Santander, where by means of search warrants, the soldiers found alias “Chileno”, “Pepe” and “Conejo". In the same place, the troops along with the Prosecutor's Office found 80 cubic meters of wood, six sawmills and a bulldozer, which, apparently, were used by the alleged traffickers, to illegally extract this natural resource.

With these three apprehensions, it is possible to neutralize the criminal operations against the environment, an activity that the individuals had been carrying out for five years. In the same way, the financial structure of this illegal group is heavily hit by approximately 240 million pesos.

The detainees were put into custody of the judicial authority and must face charges for the crime of illicit exploitation of natural resources.
