Along with the Unit of Risk Management, the Civil Defence, the Fire service and National Police, in situations that compromise the good physical condition, the Colombian National Army assists communities in emergencies posed by natural factors, forest fires, and floods, among others, that endanger the well-being of Colombians.
During the rainy season of the last few days, which has struck a large part of the south-east of Colombia, the National Army has attended the call of the authorities and the community, with search and rescue operations for disappeared persons, evacuation and transfer of families who live on the banks of the rivers and are in a situation of vulnerability. In the same way, in preventive operations aimed at the inhabitants of the municipalities of the departments of Meta, Guaviare and Vaupés they respond to the call of the relief agencies.
"We are doing some support work for the rainy season with the authorities and relief agencies, in the departments of Meta, Guaviare and Vaupés. In addition to be prepared for military operations, are soldiers with a vocation of service to the citizens”, said major general Antonio María Beltrán Díaz, commander of the Fourth Division, who in the same way said that the region is rich in waters due to the currents of rivers, in surface and groundwater, which is complemented by thunderstorms.
The officer appealed the community in general to the face this rainy season: “Be alert on natural issues such as landslides, floods, we need the entire community to heed the recommendations of the organizations of disaster assistance and prevention and early warnings that are seen in the different areas to safeguard the lives of all,” he in the same way recognized the effort made in a coordinated manner by the institutions.
It should be noted that the Military Engineers of the National Army are trained and specialized in emergency care, prevention and cooperation in natural disaster and relief situations, providing humanitarian support and military assistance throughout the national territory.
Colombia has soldiers with a vocation for service, whose mission is to protect the security and well-being of Colombians.
