The drug, more than three tons, would cost US$4,632,000,000 in the illicit market.
In a vehicle used to transport food that requires a cold chain, criminal groups specialized in illicit drug trafficking planned to pass 3,088 kilograms of marijuana along roads in Huila. The operation is a resounding blow to the finances of the outlaw armed structures.
The interception operation was carried out at kilometer 59 of the road that connects Garz贸n with the municipality of La Plata, where soldiers of the 26th Cacique Pigoanza Infantry Battalion and the 6th Light Cavalry Group of the Ninth Brigade of Colombian National Army, in coordination with the Traffic and Transport Police, intercepted the suspicious vehicle.
Upon inspection, 5,850 packages containing the illicit substance were found by troops, 1,200 of which were marked with the Colombian flag, a drug trafficking strategy to identify the origin of the narcotic that was apparently intended to be exported. The driver of the vehicle, a 34-year-old man, was arrested and put into custody of the authority.
The marijuana shipment, which would be valued at $4,632,000,000, would triple in value when leaving the country; hence the persistence of these structures of using the roads of Huila to pass large shipments of narcotics, seeking to strengthen illegal finances and the execution of criminal operations.
Colombian National Army reaffirms its commitment to work hand in hand with civilians and government authorities to combat crimes that disturb public security and health, with special emphasis on the problem of drug trafficking. The finding of this millionaire shipment is a sign of the constant work and specialization of Colombian soldiers in the fight against this crime.
