An illicit hideout with more than a ton of explosives was eliminated by Colombian National Army in the department of Putumayo, mitigating the serious threat against the inhabitants.
In a powerful operation against the threats to the security of the inhabitants, troops of the Combat Engineer Battalion No. 27, of the Twenty-Seventh Brigade, found and neutralized an illicit hideout of improvised explosives in a rural area of the municipality of Puerto Asís, department of Putumayo that would belong to the residual organized armed group Segunda Marquetalia Structura Comandos de Frontera.
The military action took place in the Agua Negra 2 village, within the framework of the Ayacucho Plus Campaign Plan. This result was possible thanks to the coordinated work of military intelligence, with resources of the Regional Intelligence of the Amazonas, the River Battalion of Navy Infantry n° 30 and the prosecution of the Sijin (Judicial Police) of the National Police in Puerto Asís.
During the procedure, the troops detected a hideout containing 1607 kilograms of an apparently improvised explosive substance, with characteristics similar to ANFO. This highly dangerous element would be used for the indiscriminate production of improvised explosive devices that would affect the inhabitants and stability in the region.
The controlled destruction of this hideout managed to neutralize the manufacture of approximately 8,000 explosive devices, including anti-personnel mines, significantly mitigating the risk to the inhabitants and the Military Forces in this region of the country.
