Troops of the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) Santander, in coordination with the National Police and the Attorney General's Office, have arrested alias Cicatriz, alleged ringleader of the focused criminal component of the Edgar Madrid Benjumea Substructure, of the GAO Clan del Golfo.
According to the intelligence work that lasted about six months, the soldiers establish that this individual, 22 years old and approximately 9 years in the organization, would be in charge of handling the money collected as a result of extortions against merchants. In the same way he coordinated homicides in Barrancabermeja, Puerto Wilches and San Pablo, south of Bolívar.
The arrested man would apparently be related to the murder of a woman, on June 27, in Puerto Wilches, Santander, among other homicides.
Alias Cicatriz was put into custody of the judicial authority to face charges of carrying, trafficking or carrying firearms and aggravated homicide.
This arrest has a great impact on the security of several municipalities of Santander and South of Bolívar, in terms of neutralizing intimidation by extortion, as well as selective homicides in that region.
