A baby otter arrived in Cali on a Colombian Air Force plane

The Colombian Air Force Titan squadron carried out a mission to safeguard the life of a giant river otter (pteronura brasiliensis) about four months old, who was under the care of the Corporation for the Sustainable Development of the southern Amazon (Corpoamazonia), after being seriously wounded by dogs and removed from her group.

At the request of Corpoamazonia, the specimen was collected in the city of Leticia, to be taken to Valle del Cauca, where it will receive assistance from experts from the Zoo Zoológico de Cali, and, after being quarantined, it will be able to develop together with other otters that are in the area.

The crew of the Colombian Air Force C-295 aircraft complied with the Leticia - Puerto Asís - Cali route and thanks to the dedicated veterinary work of the Ikozoa Foundation, the otter was able to endure the trip, and technical recommendations were followed during the flight.

The otter is an endangered species, since illegal hunting has increased in recent years. Therefore, reaffirming the commitment to the preservation of the environment, the Colombian Air Force will continue to develop these missions, in support of the environmental corporations in the national territory.
