Bambi Bucket training strengthens institutional response to forest fires

Entrenamiento Bambi Bucket fortalece respuesta institucional frente a incendios forestales

In order to strengthen the response capacity to the dry season that could intensify due to the possible arrival of the El Niño phenomenon, the Colombian Aerospace Force, through the Air Combat Command No. 7, carried out a forest fire extinguishing exercise using the Bambi Bucket system, in coordination with emergency response agencies.

The activity was held in the municipality of Yumbo, department of Valle de Cauca in the lagoon of the Hacienda Salento where the participation of the Colombian Red Cross, the Civil Defense, the Yumbo Volunteer Fire Department, Vijes and representatives of the National Disaster Risk Management System, strengthened the inter-institutional coordination protocols and joint response procedures to deal with possible large-scale conflagrations caused by the increase in temperatures.

As part of the training, a UH-60 helicopter conducted exercises of the aerial resources for the collection and water drop of water using the Bambi Bucket system, enabling the participating institutions and people to know the procedures used during forest fire control operations and other emergencies that require air support.
