A blow to drug trafficking: illegal laboratory dismantled in the department of Putumayo

Golpe al narcotráfico

Within the framework of a joint, coordinated and inter-institutional operation, the Colombian Aerospace Force, Colombian National Army and the National Police carried out the finding and controlled destruction of a laboratory used for the production of potassium permanganate, a chemical of high value in the production of cocaine hydrochloride, due to its power as an oxidizing agent.

The military operation took place in the Medellín village, in the municipality of Puerto Asís, department of Putumayo, where more than 5,000 kilograms of potassium permanganate, 13 gallons of manganese dioxide, two industrial boilers, six pentolite units, a detonator unit, as well as 70 meters of detonating cord and 30 meters of safety fuse were found by troops.

Thanks to strategic follow-up work carried out by the Air Combat Command No. 6 (CACOM-6), a unit of the Colombian Aerospace Force with area of responsibility in the south of the country, it was possible to find this logistics complex, belonging to the Residual Organized Armed Group Comandos de Frontera, significantly damaging its financial structure, with losses exceeding 270 million pesos.

This result of the military operation not only impacts the illicit activities of drug trafficking, but in the same way prevents the circulation of substances highly harmful to public health and the environment.
