The inter-institutional coordination and the permanent exchange of information managed to deal this blow to transnational crime networks.
Intelligence information of the Anti-Narcotics Police alerted the Coast Guard Station of Urabá and the Navy Infantry River Battalion No. 16 about a container that would have illicit substances inside, which was on board a high-class Liberian-flagged ship bound for Europe.
A Rapid Reaction Unit was immediately deployed to where the ship was anchored in the waters of the Gulf of Urabá, in the department of Antioquia. Upon arrival, the members of the Military Forces carried out a thorough search of several containers, finding inside one of them the possible illicit elements.
Trained dogs of the Colombian Navy and the National Police were in charge of carrying out the procedure, who found inside 52 sacks containing 1,299 rectangular packages with characteristics similar to those used for the transport of narcotics. The items were taken by sea to the facilities of the Urabá Police Department to conduct the Approved Preliminary Identification Test, which left a positive result for 1,300 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride.
Satellite positioning equipment such as Garmin GPS was seized. The alkaloid was put into custody of the authorities for their respective prosecution process.
Intelligence information identified that the ship was destined for European countries, including the Netherlands and England, where the seized alkaloid would have had a cost of more than 72 million dollars.
Through this result, the Colombian Navy, through the Caribbean Naval Force, is constantly coordinating with other State institutions in order to continue weakening drug trafficking networks, and reaffirms its commitment to maritime security and the fight against organized crime.
