As part of the ongoing operations aimed at countering the criminal activity of criminal groups in the Department of Chocó, troops of the Colombian Navy, in conjunction with Colombian National Army, reported the surrender to justice of six alleged members of the Pablo José Montalvo Cuitiva substructure of the Organized Armed Group –GAO- Clan del Golfo, on the banks of the Bojayá River in the department of Chocó.
The military operation carried out by troops of the Navy Infantry River Battalion No.16 and of Colombian National Army, made six individuals, noticing the activity of the members of the Military Forces, to express their willingness to surrender to justice, rejoin civilian life and abandon illicit activities.
During the operation, it was in the same way possible to recover two minors, who were allegedly part of this criminal structure specialized in different illicit activities in the region.
At the time of their surrender to the military personnel, the individuals handed over elements of communications and military accessories of the armed group. Through this operation, the armed component of the organization, responsible for serious human rights violations and violations of International Humanitarian Law in this area of the country, is significantly damaged.
The minors were put into custody of the Colombian Institute of Family Wellbeing –ICBF-, for the restoration of their rights, while the authorities carry out the corresponding judicial procedures with the adults.
