With a high-level meeting conducted by the delegations of the navies of Brazil, Colombia and Peru, held in Leticia, Department of Amazonas, Operation BRACOLPER 2026 officially began, the oldest combined naval exercise in the Amazon region, which for more than five decades has strengthened cooperation, interoperability and trust among the three Navies to face in a coordinated way the threats that affect the security of the Amazon triple border.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Vice Admiral Carlos Alberto Serrano Guzmán, Chief of the Headquarters of the Naval Staff of Operations of the Colombian Navy, accompanied by Rear Admiral Alfonso Córdoba García, Commander of the Naval Force of the Amazonas. Vice Admiral André Luiz de Andrade Felix, Commander of the 9th, in the same way participated by the Naval District of the Brazilian Navy, and Vice Admiral Percy Antonio Pérez Bramosio, Chief of Operations of the Amazon of the Peruvian Navy.
Operation BRACOLPER 2026 will be carried out in three phases: it will start in Colombia, continue in Peru and end in Brazil. As a tradition that has accompanied this exercise for more than five decades, each phase coincides with the independence commemorations of the three countries, enabling the participating navies to accompany the protocol acts and strengthen the bonds of partnership, cooperation and integration that unite them.
During the Colombian-led phase, the crews will carry out combined naval exercises, support activities for the people and participate in the commemoration of National Independence Day, strengthening their interoperability resources, command and control, tactical communications and response to transnational threats and humanitarian assistance environments.
In this edition, the Multinational Task Force will travel 5,563 kilometers along the rivers Amazon, Putumayo, Solimões, Negro and Nanay, consolidating one of the most important combined river deployments in the region. This navigation will strengthen joint training, knowledge exchange and coordination conducted by the three navies, reaffirming their commitment to river security, the protection of the Amazon and the well-being of river communities.
For BRACOLPER 2026, the Colombian Navy participates with the ARC River Support Patrol Ship TECIM Eddic Cristian Reyes Holguín; the Brazilian Navy with the River Patrol Ship Raposo Tavares, the River Patrol Ship Amapá and the Hospital Assistance Ship Soares de Meirelles; while the Peruvian Navy participates with the B.A.P. Castilla and the B.A. P. Yavarí River. These units, together with the Navy components of the three nations, make up the Multinational Task Force that will carry out the combined operations during the exercise.
