For two years non-technical studies were carried out, in order to restore tranquility to the inhabitants of Mapiripan. In a coordinated work with the people and local authorities, the Humanitarian Demining Engineer Battalion No.4 Capitan Diego Fernando Cortez Cardona carried out work with the purpose of freeing these lands of the contamination of both anti-personnel mines and unexploded ordnance.

An important part of the work was focused on the instruction on mine risks, preparing the communities to be on alert and, in any case, to be able to identify dangerous situations in order to inform and immediately implement all the measures that led them to protect their good physical condition.

In Zone 2 of the municipality of Mapiripán, there are the indigenous communities of Caño Ovejas, Betania Corocito, Macuare, Charco Caiman, Caño Jabón and Neaxal Lajt, who benefited directly, and, from today, thanks to the operation of the demining soldiers, they will be able to travel safely and resume agricultural work, which will improve the quality of life of their inhabitants and promote the economic development of the region.

It should be noted that, thanks to the work of our soldiers, Colombia today has 263 municipalities free of suspicion of anti-personnel mine contamination, which means more than 16 million square meters of cleared areas.
