Within the framework of joint and inter-institutional operations aimed at protecting the inhabitants and affecting the resources of illegal armed structures, troops of the Colombian Navy, Colombian National Army and officials of the Technical Investigation Corps - CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Attorney General's Office, reported the finding and controlled destruction of a clandestine hiding place with explosives, in a rural area of the Special District of Buenaventura.
The operation was carried out by troops of the Navy Infantry River Battalion No.24 in the sector known as El Gallinero, where a hideout containing 45 improvised explosive devices -IEDs -, of rudimentary manufacture, was found. Each one was conditioned with approximately 150 grams of ANFO-type explosive, for a total of about 6.7 kilograms of explosive elements, in addition to an electrical activation system and initiation system by command cable.
According to Naval Intelligence information, it is presumed that these explosives would be used by members of the Residual Organized Armed Group - GAO-r Jaime Martínez, Wilson González Mobile Column, to carry out terrorist acts against the inhabitants, the Military Forces and the strategic construction, with the purpose of damaging the security conditions in the Special District of Buenaventura.
The elements were destroyed in controlled conditions on the place by explosives technicians of the Investigative Group Against Criminal Organizations - GICOC- of the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Attorney General's Office, strictly complying with the established security protocols.
Through this result of the military operation, the Colombian Navy neutralized a threat that put at risk the life and integrity of the communities and the troops, while affecting the logistical and terrorist resources of the GAO-r Jaime Martínez, reducing its capacity to plan and execute criminal acts in this region of the Colombian Pacific.
