As part of its mission to support the country through strategic air transport, the Colombian Aerospace Force, through the Military Transport Air Command, CATAM, carried out the transfer of the RC 1000 telescope, considered the largest in Latin America, from Bogotá to the city of Pasto aboard a C-130 Hercules aircraft.
This aerial operation leads to the optimal transportation of this high-tech equipment, destined for the Astronomy Observatory of the University of Nariño, where it will contribute to the strengthening of scientific research, academic training and astronomical observation projects in the south of the country.
Thanks to the logistical and military operations capacity of the C-130 Hercules, an aircraft designed to transport large and heavy loads to different regions of the national territory, it was possible to transport this important scientific instrument, assuring its arrival in optimal conditions.
The arrival of the telescope represents a historic event for the University of Nariño and for the Colombian scientific community, by expanding research possibilities and providing new learning opportunities for students, teachers and researchers. This instrument will open a new window for the exploration of the universe in the department of Nariño, consolidating the region as a reference for astronomy.
