Coast Guard units of the Colombian Navy found 1.9 tons of cocaine hydrochloride that were hidden inside a container on board a cargo ship for maritime transport, which had as its final destination a port in Spain.
The result was possible thanks to the continuous control and surveillance efforts carried out by the Naval Institution, which on this occasion led to the detection of the contamination of a boat with drugs while transiting through national waters.
Once the information was received, a Rapid Reaction Unit -URR - belonging to the Cartagena Coast Guard Station was sent to check the ship, along with an anti-narcotics trained dog, in order to conduct the visit procedure, during which 80 rectangular black bags were found by troops, hidden inside a container.
The material was disembarked and taken to a safe place in Cartagena, where officials of the Technical Investigation Corps - CTI- of the Attorney General's Office, carried out the corresponding judicial procedures and the Approved Preliminary Identification Test -PIPH-, confirming that it was 1,978 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride, illegal merchandise that in the European illegal market would cost more than 193 million dollars, and from which approximately five million individual doses could be extracted for illegal distribution.
No arrests were reported during the operation. The drug was put into custody of the authorities.
