As part of Operation Toucan Royal, more than half a ton of cocaine hydrochloride was seized.
This international operation is part of the efforts that the navies of the region and allied countries have been carrying out to prevent transnational crime organizations from using maritime communication lines for drug trafficking.
The Colombian Navy and the French Military Forces combined resources and intelligence information to, with the support of allied countries, deploy to the Caribbean Sea. In this last week, reported the confiscation of 649 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride that were being transported by transnational crime and terrorist organizations.
The maritime interception, which took place in the waters of the Northern Colombian Caribbean, was carried out within the framework of Operation Toucan Royal, which combined naval and technological resources of both nations to strengthen interoperability and tactical coordination.
As a result of the operation, a go fast type ship was seized that was destined for Central America, in which two Dominican citizens were transporting 21 sacks containing 652 packages with the illicit elements. After the rigorous checks, the boat and its crew were towed to Riohacha, department of La Guajira department, to continue the process of prosecution.
For several days, Colombia and France demonstrated the high level of training and interoperability to combat transnational organized crime, especially drug trafficking, conducting risky maneuvers in adverse maritime conditions that required a high level of professionalism on the part of the crews of the participating ships, including the ARC Missile Frigate Independiente, the French Frigate Germinal, as well as airplanes, helicopters and Coast Guard ships.
