Yoko, the last chimpanzee that remained under human care, was transported from Pereira to Bogotá in a C-130 hercules aircraft of the Military Transport Air Command- CATAM of the Colombian Aerospace Force, to continue on its way to its new home in Brazil.
In support of the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Risaralda-CARDER and the Ukumarí Biopark, the crew of the C-130 hercules aircraft landed at the Matecaña International Airport, with all the necessary logistics to board and begin its transfer to Bogotá safely accompanied by of veterinarians, who raised its physical and emotional well-being.
Once in Bogotá, the chimpanzee Yoko began its process to be transported in a cargo aircraft, of a commercial airline, to the recognized Sorocaba Sanctuary in Brazil where experts hope that it will be accepted by other primates.
The chimpanzee, arrived at the Ukumarí Biopark in 2018 after remained more than three decades in captivity under adverse conditions. For seven years, specialists from different institutions have been working to provide him with the best living conditions, providing comprehensive care and permanent care.
The Colombian Aerospace Force is proud to have the distinctive resources of its aircraft, such as transporting oversized cargo in its C-130 hercules, helping, on this occasion, Yoko continue its life in a natural environment.
