The activity included presentations by the Directorate of National Security and the Defense industry through the Corporate Center of the Defense Social and Business Group (GSED).
From May 12 to 15, 2025, the IX Bilateral Defense Meeting conducted by Colombia and Chile will be held, a space for strategic dialogue between the two countries in the field of security and defense. The Chilean delegation, headed by the Undersecretary of Defense, Ricardo Montero Allende, was received by authorities of the Ministry of National Defense of Colombia to conduct the revision of the Binational Work Plan 2024-2026.
During the official opening of the meeting, the (acting) Deputy Minister for Defense and Security Policies, Juliana Coronado Neira, highlighted the value of the bilateral relationship and the commitment of both governments to strengthening regional security. In her speech, she said: "Today we reaffirm the excellent relations between the Defense Sectors of Chile and Colombia. This meeting gives continuity to the Bilateral Defense Meetings that have been held successfully since 2011 and that have become the main channel for defense cooperation at the strategic level.”
During the activity, the progress in the issues prioritized by both delegations were reviewed: cyberdefense, gender equity, defense industry, environment, strategic planning and human rights. Good practices were in the same way shared on energy transition in military installations, women's participation in the defense sector and risk management to face climate change
For his part, the Chilean Undersecretary of Defense recognized the importance of the permanent work conducted by the two countries that leads to “continuing to work and strengthening this relationship to assume, in a coordinated way, the challenges we face. Challenges linked to traditional matters of defense, but in the same way other major challenges that are part of the region,” said Montero Allende.
A visit to the Tolemaida Military Fort is in the same way planned, where the Chilean delegation will learn first-hand about the resources of the military operation of the Engineer Brigade and other units of Colombian National Army.
