Colombia and El Salvador strengthen ties of cooperation and fight against transnational crime

With the purpose of strengthening cooperation in the military industry and support in the fight against drug trafficking and transnational crime, the Defense ministers of Colombia, Diego Molano Aponte, and his counterpart of the Republic of El Salvador, Vice Admiral Rene Francis Merino Monroy, formalized the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.

 

“The strengthening of Binational cooperation is key to the fight against the world drug problem, because this transnational phenomenon, which hit not only Colombia but the region and the nation of El Salvador, because it is an obligatory step of the narcotics routes from South America to the United States,” said Minister Molano.

 

With the signing of this cooperation instrument, the Salvadoran Navy will be able to receive the products and services of the Colombian military industry, in order to strengthen regional security, especially in the fight against drug trafficking and phenomena associated with transnational crime. 

 

“This Memorandum of Understanding in the Defense Industry will lead us to strengthen our excellent relations of cooperation and facilitate the continuous improvement of the material Resources and equipment necessary to strengthen the important effort in the fight against transnational crime carried out by the Salvadoran Navy at the service of the homeland,” Molano said.

 

For his part, the minister of National Defence and Chief of General staff of the Republic of El Salvador, vice admiral Merino Monroy, submitted to the minister Molano the express request of leading the academic exchange conducted by cadets of schools navies of the two nations, since the central american nation considers the Naval School Cadets, Admiral José Prudencio Padilla, one of the schools that are better qualified in the Caribbean region.

 

For the signing of this document that leads to the agreed cooperation operations, the two senior officials held a virtual meeting in which issues related to the support of the Government of Colombia in criminal investigation, exchange of information, technical support, training and exchange of successful experiences and good practices were in the same way addressed.
