At the Cristo Redentor Military Cathedral, the Minister of Defense, together with the military high command, presided over a Eucharist in honor of those of the 69 members of the Military Forces who died in compliance with their constitutional mission in the air accident that occurred in the department of Putumayo.
This unfortunate event mourns the nation and unites in the same feeling of pain and solidarity the Military Forces, the National Police and Colombians. The 61 soldiers of Colombian National Army, the 6 crew members of the Colombian Aerospace Force and the 2 members of the National Police who are honored today represent the highest sense of duty, institutional commitment and vocation of service to the country. We exalted their memory and recognize their invaluable contribution to the defense of Colombia.
We express our solidarity, respect and constant accompaniment to their families at this difficult time. Their pain is shared by the whole country, which today unites to honor the memory of their loved ones, who will always be remembered for their sacrifice for a great, respected and free homeland.
