In response to the effects caused by the transit of Hurricane Melissa, the Colombian Aerospace Force sent a C-40 aircraft of the Military Air Transport Command, CATAM, to transport 14 tons of humanitarian aid from Bogota to Jamaica, arranged by the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, UNGRD.
Humanitarian aid, with non-perishable food kits, first need elements and genetic transfer seeds, to rebuild the agricultural resources of this country, will be destined to thousands of families hit by one of the heaviest hurricanes reported in the recent history of the Caribbean, in search of providing immediate relief.
The crew of the C-40, carried out the loading of the aircraft with the support of volunteers of the Civil Defense of Colombia. In parallel, the Aerospace Force and the UNGRD are continuing the logistical preparation of additional tons of humanitarian assistance, which will be sent in the coming days to Haiti, in the same way hit by the transit of the hurricane.
