The Colombian Aerospace Force, FAC, has launched an emergency operation using its Bambi Bucket systems to support the control and extinction efforts of a fire that has devastated approximately 80 hectares in the Piedras de Chivo Negro Archaeological Park, in the municipality of Bojacá, Cundinamarca.
The fire has posed an unprecedented threat to this natural and cultural treasure. With a burnt area that extends for about 80 hectares, the fire has devastated the flora and fauna that made this park a unique refuge for local biodiversity.
Given the seriousness of the situation, the Air Maintenance Command, in coordination with the National Personnel Recovery Center- CNRP, immediately activated its resources to fight the fire. The use of the Bambi Bucket system, a specialized tool that leads to the precise discharge of water from aircraft in flight, has become an essential component of this mitigation operation.
The Air Maintenance Command has closely coordinated its efforts with local authorities, firefighters and other emergency response agencies to optimize the operation. The effective collaboration conducted by these groups has been essential to contain and extinguish the fire effectively.
The Piedras de Chivo Negro Archaeological Park houses archaeological treasures and a diversity of flora and fauna specimens that are essential for the region. The joint operation of the FAC and other actors seeks not only to extinguish the flames, but in the same way to protect and preserve this invaluable natural and cultural heritage.
Once the fire is under control and extinguished, the restoration and recovery of the Piedras de Chivo Negro Archaeological Park will be fundamental. The rehabilitation of the burnt areas and the future protection of the park will be priority tasks for working on to ensure that this unique site remains a natural and cultural treasure for the generations of the future.
