In a coordinated effort to mitigate the effects of the violence and provide assistance to the displaced vulnerable inhabitants in Cúcuta, Norte de Santander Department, the Colombian Aerospace Force sent two C-130 and C-295 type aircraft to transport 17 tons of humanitarian aid. This operation was possible thanks to the coordinated work with the Victims Unit, the Disaster Risk Management Unit - UNGRD and the Colombian Family Wellbeing Institute – ICBF.
This is how, at about noon and bound for Ocaña, the first C-295 aircraft left the ramp of the Military Air Transport Command, CATAM with 4 tons, including toilet kits, non-perishable food, basic survival and other essential supplies; later, a C-130 Hercules aircraft took off for Cúcuta, capital of the department, transporting 13 tons of humanitarian aid, to provide support to the inhabitants who are in areas of difficult access and have been displaced by the conflict in this region of the country.
The supplies will be distributed to the Governorate of the department and to the mayoralties of Cúcuta, Tibú and Ocaña, to be subsequently distributed by relief agencies and local authorities; this operation responds to the urgent need for support to the communities, who are facing extreme conditions, due to the violence that raises these days northeastern Colombia.
