A common crime group, which had been in this sector for 5 months, had allegedly obtained illicit income of about approximately 50 million per month.
In compliance with the Ayacucho Campaign Plan and the Amazonia Plan, the municipality of Montenegro, Quindío, in the village of El Cusco, troops of the Combat Engineer Battalion No. 8 of the Eighth Brigade, in coordination with the Carabineros Police, found a mining production unit where they found and disabled elements for the illicit exploitation of mining deposits and arrested an individual, who would be allegedly responsible for this crime.

The individual, native from the department of Chocó, was put into custody of the authority to be prosecuted for the alleged crime of illegal exploitation of a mining deposit.
Through this result, it was possible to damage the finances of criminal groups specialized in this problem against the environment, thus mitigating the environmental impact of the water source.
Through these illegal activities, deforestation, the loss of biodiversity and the destruction of the habitat of animal specimens spread, as well as the contamination of the water that feeds the vital liquid to the inhabitants of the department.
